Warner Bros., who purchased the rights to the film some four years ago, is in the early stages of reinterpretating the 1985 original, though no director, screenwriter or cast has been selected as of yet, although Tom Welling (Smallville) is apparently up for the lead role.
The Atlantic Releasing Corporation distributed the 24-year-old master movie, which was a surprise hit at the box office during the second half of '85. Directed by Rod Daniel, the werewolf flick starred Michael J. Fox, who did not return for the 1987 sequel, Teen Wolf Too (starring Jason Bateman).
In addition to the films, an animated TV series aired from 1986 to 1987, running 21 episodes long. In 2003 the UPN had considered a live-action series for the franchise, but they didn't even get as far as a pilot episode before the idea was scrapped.
