Umbrella Catching Wind?

Universal chooses Umbrella Academy for first project.

Dark Horse comics has a three-year production deal with Universal Studios. The comic book series was created from the lead singer of My Chemical Romance, Gerard Way with art from Gabriel Ba. Debuting in 2007 as a 6 issue mini-series, and currently has a second series being released. The series revolves around a disbanded group of superheroes who reunite after the death of their adoptive father, who is an alien disguised as a famous entrepreneur, and continue carrying out his plan to save the world.

Matt Bomback has been hired to write the adaptation. Bomback wrote the Disney remake of Race to Witch Mountain along with Fox's Live Free or Die Hard. Mike Richardson will produce alongside Scott Stuber through his U-based Struber Productions. Way will also serve as an executive producer.

Hellyboy: The Golden Army was released by U last year, and the success of Hellboy helped the sides come to an agreement about the exclusive partnership that gives the studio full access to the library of Dark Horse stories and characters.
