Venom the Next Big-Screen Villain?

Stan Lee will make cameo in 2010 supervillain feature

BY EMIL TIEDEMANN

After making an appearance in 2007's Spider-Man 3 (played by That '70s Show's Topher Grace), Spidey's arch-nemesis Venom will get his chance as the lead of his own major motion picture, aptly titled Venom.

Scripted by Paul Wernick (The Joe Schmo Show) and Rhett Reese (Monsters, Inc.)--who met working on the Zombieland film together--Venom will be based on the symbiotic alien life-form that made his debut in issue #252 of Marvel's The Amazing Spider-Man comic in May 1984.

Stan Lee, the Spider-Man creator and former Marvel Comics president, will reportedly have a cameo in the supervillain feature. "Oh, yeah. Stan Lee is in it," confessed Reese to Superherohype.com. "I feel like that's the one thing we can say. He does appear in our script, and we're very specific about where he is and why."

"Venom is something that we're very fired up to be writing," Reese continued about his excitement over the big-budget treatment of one of the most sought-after comic villains of all-time. "We have turned in a draft and are waiting to hear back, so it's early in the process. But it's a thrill to be writing Venom for obvious reasons."

The project, which is slated for a 2010 release, is yet to find a director and cast, while Topher Grace has not been confirmed to reprise his role for Venom.
