DVD Vault: Run Lola Run
This 1998 movie stars Franka Potente who was an unknown at this point, except in her native Germany. North American audiences will know her from movies such as Blow and Bourne Identity and it's sequel. In this movie, Franka plays Lola, a woman who receives a phone call from her boyfriend Manni, played by Moritz Bleibtreu. In this phone call, he tells Lola that he has lost a lot of the mob's money that he was entrusted to deliver, and that he has 20 minutes to replace this money or else he will be killed. He is attempting to rob a grocery store, and will do so if Lola does not get to him within that 20 minutes and get him the amount of money that he has lost. At this point, the movie goes into an almost Groundhog Day type of movie, where Lola wakes up, gets this phone call, and then literally starts running throughout the whole movie. However, something gets in her way during her first run, slowing her down along the way, and getting to her boyfriend late, and a tragic moment occurs. After that happens, you see her wake up again, and start her day off again, avoiding one thing that got in her way and changing things that happen to other people along the way. She does get her money, and after a few times waking up again after the final outcome, finally gets the ending she and her boyfriend want. Very good movie, don't mind the subtitles....
